100 Heads Challenge day 7: Sexy Victorians

The actual theme today is 19th Century Photographic Portraits, but after the last couple of days, I was like, "I wanna just draw some fucking hot people." So I did.

Here are some extremely attractive Victorians/Edwardians. Click to enlarge:



I wish I had more to say about it. Drawing conventionally attractive people is, frankly, easier than drawing people with more unique features. And I wanted something a little easier today, especially since I want to push myself a bit more again with the next few days until the challenge is over.

I knocked these out in just a few hours and had a pencil crisis in the middle which stalled my progress for a while. The pencil I started this day's drawings with had a fractured lead inside the barrel. Then, in the process of trying to re-sharpen it and hopefully get some lead that WASN'T fractured, my cheap-ass pencil sharpener bit the dust in a big way. So I had to change pencils AND sharpen the second pencil with a box cutter.

BUT I PERSEVERED and I feel restored and rejuvenated and I just want to draw pretty Victorian ladies until I die.

Lovely! Is there an official hashtag for this challenge, a prompt list or anything?

Not that I know of? It's just called the 100 Heads Challenge. The tag I've been using on DeviantArt, at least, is just 100headschallenge and doing some preliminary poking around yields some results in other places!

There's no official prompt list! Some people have made and shared Pinterest boards with 100 reference photographs that people can work off of, if they don't want to source their own images. I came up with my own themes for each day, just so I wasn't blindly reaching for material!

My themes ended up being:
Day 1 - Random
Day 2- Men
Day 3 - Kids
Day 4 - Seniors
Day 5 - Mugshots
Day 6 - Friends who volunteered
Day 7 - 19th Century (AKA Sexy Victorians)
Still to come:
Day 8 - People of color
Day 9 - Cool people who aren't primarily famous for being beautiful
Day 10 - Original characters

Okay, cool! I have been thinking about this and maybe I should draft myself some kind of own prompt list, too. Looking forward to seeing day 9, sounds interesting!

It's been really fun and I feel like, while I've achieved a complete disconnect between people's faces and reality, I've learned a lot! If I were to do it again, I would probably do it as a 20 day challenge instead of a 10 day. I'm only really able to do this in 10 days to the level of detail I want because I'm currently unemployed, so I have the time!

I hadn't really thought about doing themed days when I started, but I want specifically draw men one day and kids another day because I'm not super great at drawing either. And then I realized I love drawing elderly people, so I wanted to do a whole day of just that and it kind of snowballed from there!
