Skeleton!!

Today's sketch is a dancing skeleton. Reference is from Sketchfab which has a HUGE database of searchable 3d images which can be fully zoomed in and out and manipulated for the perfect angle.

I used to draw a LOT of skeletons and skulls. I really love learning about anatomy and my primary interest in art has historically been realism, so it was really important to me to learn about how the human body fit together to be able to most accurately represent it. But when I fell off the art horse, so to speak, I also fell out of the habit of drawing skeletons. I mean, I still draw a sort of skeleton as a framework before I do a sketch to make sure I have my proportions and angles right, but I don't need to really sketch out every single rib and tooth, Just sort of head blob, ribcage blob, pelvis blob, lines for spine and limbs. Really getting into it and detailing the bones felt really good.

I went into it planning to do just do a simple ink outline and I'm glad that I did. I kind of wish I'd shaded in the eye sockets, but that's kind of a personal nitpick. I also wish I'd tried a little harder on the angle of the skull, but I was so INTO THOSE RIBS that I just kind of hurried through the head.

That's so cute! I mean the pose. And wow the drawing is great! If you didn't say you sketched it I would have thought it's a textbook scan or something.

That's a quality skelly you got here! Looks like finished lineart to me, not sketchy at all!

Gods that's pretty decent. I suck at proportions and yours is so on-point for a sketch.
