We saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Saturday after J's work holiday party and I have no words. Which is going to make it awkward blogging about it?
J/k! I have words. They're just mostly couched in squealing and flailing because this movie was AMAZING. J and I had been excited about it for a long time--the animation looked stunning, even in the previews, and J was particularly into seeing a Miles Morales Spider-Man movie. I really enjoy superhero movies, but I don't really read comics very much, so I was mainly just completely gobsmacked by the artwork and animation. Plus, it's a Lord and Miller movie and they're basically hilarious wizards and I have loved everything I've seen from them.
So, my expectations were HIGH going in, which isn't very usual for me and movies. I try to be very careful to have no expectations so I can really let the movie stand on its own without me trying to force it into something I'd prefer. I was not ready for Spider-Verse. It so SO GOOD. It's warm and funny and exciting and it's just so so so SO beautiful to watch. I spent pretty much the entire last half of the movie thinking, over and over again, "this is the best movie I've ever seen. It's the best movie that has ever been made." The second the movie was over, the only thing I wanted to do was watch it again.
I can't overstate how incredibly enjoyable this movie was. I really love Tom Holland as Spider-Man but if there was never another Spider-Man movie that isn't Spider-Verse, I would be totally fine with that. It was so interesting and colorful and was an incredible good time. I cannot WAIT until I can see it again!
